THE ZOOFS - GET TO KNOW YOURSELF

THE ZOOFS - 'Get To Know Yourself'/'Not So Near' (Deesu 310) August 1966

Here's an obscure folk garage disc by a group of teenagers from New Orleans. Not a great deal of information was known about them until lead guitarist Mike Presti contacted 60sgaragebands.com, further reading can now be found here

Both sides are very raw folk rock with a double tracked 6 string guitar making that Byrdsian 12 string sound. Clever production skills by the renowned Allen Toussaint. One wonders just how raw things could have been without the help of a professional producer.

'Get To Know Yourself' has turned up on the vinyl compilation 'Time Won't Change My Mind' but the flip 'Not So Near' remains uncomped.

line-up:
Mike Presti (lead guitar/vocals)
Nelson Calongne (rhythm guitar)
Scotty Hanum (drums)
Buddy Kenney (bass)

  1. Great "She's a woman" rip off in the intro, although the rest of the song rather reminds me of early Kinks. Cool tune.
